I have serv ed on the administrative team at East Baton Rouge Arts and Technology School since the school’s inception. Before becoming School Director, I developed curricula, participated in budget preparation, prepared reports for BESE and the Charter School Evaluation Team, participated in physical plant supervision and maintenance, mentored teaching staff, chaired the Technology Committee, and served as School Facilitator for Louisiana Virtual School and as the District Technology Coordinator. In Spring, 2003, I participated in the Charter Reconstitution process by collaborating on the new charter and presenting it to BESE. Since April 2003, when I assumed the position of Acting School Director, I have fulfilled all of the duties traditionally assigned to principals including direct supervision of teachers, budget preparation, development and management of crisis plans, administration of fire drills, staff development, public relations, consultation to the Board of Directors, liaising with parents, curriculum supervision, physical plant supervision, and submission of all reports to State and Federal agencies.
To better prepare myself for my role as a secondary school principal, I have enrolled in the Louisiana Principal Induction program. All new public school administrators are asked to participate in this program, so my involvement will facilitate interaction with other certified administrators. I am currently enrolling in a Master’s Degree Administration and Supervision program in preparation to become a fully certified administrator by 2006. Part of the research at EBRATS centers on how best to administer the school. To that end, we research and experiment with teachers as administrators and how to blend traditional approaches with our own unique concerns.
As a graduate student at Temple University, I was a staff member of the scholarly journal, Schuylkill and was the primary director for our Interdisciplinary Conference, coordinating events and supervising participants from Universities nationwide.
