Interships

The E.B.R.A.T.S. Internship Program offers students the opportunity to work with local businesses to obtain experience and exposure to a career field of their choice. Internships are provided to students after they have become well established in the school’s academics and work ethic, typically for juniors and seniors. Course credit is earned depending on the number of hours worked. Internship hours are mainly between 3:00 and 5:00 in the afternoons and on Fridays. Internships are treated as virtual jobs through which students learn professionalism and employment expectations in the “real world.”

As contained in our school charter, the Community Alliance for Reciprocal Education (CARE) program is a vital interface with E.B.R.A.T.S.’ educational plan. E.B.R.A.T.S. seeks to establish formal relationships with area businesses and industry through reciprocal arrangements. CARE creates instructional programs at E.B.R.A.T.S. where learned skills are further enhanced through the creation of opportunities that enable students to acquire the knowledge, skills, and values needed for lifelong learning in the workplace, while the business community acquires support for their staffing and training needs.

The task of preparing high school students for the contemporary workplace is a complex one. The United States Department of Labor SCANS Report (Secretary’s Commission on Achieving Necessary Skills for the 21 st Century Worker) outlines those complex skills and competencies that employers expect from employees. We would like to ensure that our graduates are equipped with these skills, competencies, and attitudes to help them succeed in the workplace and in higher education.

Many local businesses have joined hands with our school in working towards the accomplishment of our ultimate goal – the innovative and effective education of our young people who will be able to one day enter the job market and perform as well-trained and productive members of the Louisiana workforce.
